This is the crossmember that the transmission and transfercase sits on. I cleaned it, painted it, and put it on the frame.
It took a while with the wire wheel, but I was able to get all the old paint and grime off the crossmember. I then took 80 grit sand paper and sanded down the bare metal.
After I sanded the metal and cleaned it up with some acetone, I painted it with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator.
After the first coat dried, I sanded it with 320 grit, cleaned it, and then put on another coat.
After the 2nd coat dried, I again sanded, cleaned, and then applied the first coat of Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Black.
Again I sanded, cleaned, and put a 2nd coat. Finished
I then installed the crossmember back onto the frame.
You can see in this picture were I had to use these clamps to help me line it up.
I used some grade 8 bolts to hold the crossmember in.
Here is a close up of the bolts and the lock washers that I used.
This is more of a mock up. I did not tighten any of the bolts down on the crossmember. I will wait until after I have the engine and transmission installed before I tighten anything down. This will leave me room for adjustments. I also plan to use some locktight on the treads on final assembly.
I also installed the shock mounts onto the frame. Again, I just hand tightened them down for now.

I have the same skid plate but an having trouble finding the right amount that goes between the transmission and the plate. Can you point me in the right direction?
