Dana 300 Rebuild (Really Just a Cleanup)

I never had problems with the transfer case, so I decided to just clean it up / paint it and replace only the parts that really needed it.  Please keep in mind that I did this work about a year ago and just now posting it, so there are a lot of details left out of this one.

Here are a few before pictures

First was disassembling the shifter

I opened the case , inspected the inside and all looked fine.  I did a lot of cleaning with a wire wheel and did a lot of taping to get her ready for paint.

First coat of Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Black

Tape off.

Enjoying the Packers game while doing a little more paint prep!

I will eventually have to change this speedometer gear once I know the size tires I end up getting.  Until, then I will just leave the old one in.

Finished painting the rest of the transfer case.

Purchased a new shifter because my old one was broken at the head.  I also replaced the rubber bushing with a polymer bushing.  Had to take a shock bushing and cut it in half to get the size bushing I needed.  I found that online.

Finished

  1. Welcome back! I've enjoyed reading (and re-reading) your posts and really appreciate you sharing the great work you do. I look far to seeing the progress -- and especially the finished product.

    Thanks,

    1. Thank you! I would not say I’m back, but I’m getting there. I just ordered some brake and fuel lines so hopefully I can find time to start running those.
